What is the Angus Citizens' Panel?

The Angus Citizens' Panel is a panel comprising members of the general public who live in the Angus area.

What is the purpose of the Citizens' Panel?

The purpose of the Citizens' Panel is to consult with members of the public on a whole range of topics.

If I join the Citizens' Panel, what will I have to do?

It's really up to you! You will take part in surveys around three times a year. This may be postal or on-line surveys or, if you have agreed, telephone surveys.

We carry out different methods of consultation other than postal questionnaires. For example we may also hold local/focus discussion groups so that we can speak to people in-depth about certain issues. Only if you have agreed to this type of consultation will you be contacted, and this would only be about once per year.

Will you keep a record of my answers to any consultation and know what I said?

Definitely not. All individual responses gathered during any consultation exercises are only identifiable by such things as age, gender, geographical area etc. You as an individual will never be identified in any survey findings or reports.

Will it cost me anything to participate?

No, although you will not receive payment for participation in Panel activities, you will be reimbursed for any travel costs, childminding etc if you attend focus groups or forums. Any surveys that we send you will have a reply paid envelope.

How long will I have to stay a member of the Panel?

Again, it's up to you - members will usually stay on the Panel for two years, but you can opt out at any time. Just write to us, telephone, or email and your name and details will be removed from the current membership.

Will the Citizens' Panel be the only method of public consultation?

No, it will not replace other forms of public consultation. A Citizens' Panel is not always the best way to gather views on specific issues, but it is a good way of gaining community views.

How will I know the results of Consultation?

Every Citizens' Panel member will be sent a newsletter once a year. This newsletter gives details of all the consultations that have taken place in the previous twelve months and what departments are doing in response to the survey findings.

If you are interested in finding out more about the surveys already carried out take a look at the Citizens' Panel news and results.

How do I join the Citizens' Panel?
